While over the years I've learned to tune out internet marketing, there is one that has caught my eye created by Saitama Prefecture in Japan.
In a bid to attract more tourists from Tokyo, Saitama has launched a Facebook campaign (https://www.facebook.com/saitamajapan.en) showcasing a short anime series, each one focusing on a local legend, showing key attractions or the one above, which does a very good job of simply showcasing the beauty of the place, and why it may be special to people.
Each anime is not a documentary, but a full on story, which makes it even more of an entertaining watch. In addition to having high production values, the series is also available in a number of languages, increasing the targets which it can hit.
I think it's a very interesting way of carrying out advertising, as opposed to the traditional formal campaigns using non-social media methods. It certainly attracts the newer generation who are mostly online, and are less exposed to magazine or newspaper campaigns.
Was it successful? I certainly think so. I for know will be taking the short train ride to Saitama the next time I visit the Land of the Rising Sun.
