A tree will charge your phone in Melbourne

Innovative thinking challenges Melbourne to recreate the lamp post, with a modern, sustainable take.

Melbourne has a new tree in town, and it can charge your phone.

An experiment in sustainability, this tree is completely solar powered and acts as a standard lamp post, USB charger and bench all-in-one. The lighting uses low energy LEDs and the bench uses wood reclaimed from ageing trees in Melbourne.

It’s really good to see initiatives such as these to show the public what can be achieved through some creative thinking, combining urban furniture with the best of environmental sustainability. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of them throughout the city.

Looks like Melbournians may soon be meeting in front of the Solar Tree in addition to Under the Clocks.
