The best vantage point to photograph the Moomba Festival fireworks.
Melbourne's Moomba Festival fireworks is best photographed from Swan Street Bridge, which will give you the fireworks and the buildings of the Central Business District (CBD) in the background.
The fireworks actually shoot from the Birrarung Marr side of the Yarra River. From Swan Street Bridge, 55mm was a good focal length to use to capture the detail of the fireworks and the city, which is the photo above.
Any wider than 55mm, then you may end up with too much of the background. Large spot lights are also set along the river, meaning that it will distract from your image. The photo below was taken at 35mm.
Aim to arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the fireworks to secure your spot on Swan Street Bridge. It's normally not packed, but you will need space to unpack your tripod and remote shutter.
The following map can be loaded into Google Maps on your smartphone, with the markings intact. The circles at Birrarung Marr are the two locations that the fireworks fire from.
